Customs Faces Expanded Duties as De Minimis Exemption Ends

The expiration of the de minimis tariff exemption for imports under $800 has placed U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the center of a major operational and policy shift. Beginning Friday, CBP will collect duties on all inbound parcels, ending a system that exempted more than 1.3 billion shipments annually from tariff collection and compliance scrutiny.
