Appeals Court Finds Encryption Controls Unconstitutional

Justice Department arguments that encryption controls are necessary to protect national security didn't sit too well with a panel of federal appeals judges in California, who ruled that the controls violate the First Amendment. Exporters and computer privacy geeks, however, can't yet uncork the champagne, as justice will appeal that ruling all the way to the Supreme Court.
