Auto Parts Tariff Inclusion Process

The Commerce Department has issued formal procedures to allow for the inclusion of additional automobile parts under the 25 percent national security tariffs imposed pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. According to the Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration, the new process is intended to advance the national security objectives underlying the auto and auto parts tariffs. The Department stated that rising imports of certain auto parts may undermine the long-term viability of U.S. manufacturing in this critical sector.
