Critics Call for New Computer Benchmark

When computer industry officials talk of computers that will soon reach composite theoretical performance levels of 60,000 MTOPS and beyond, their non-technical interlocutors sit agape and marvel about machines that could no doubt produce a nuclear weapon with a single keystroke. Too bad no one really knows what MTOPS measure. The confusion has prompted an inchoate movement for a new benchmark.
