David Peters to be Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement

David Peters has been nominated to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Enforcement, plugging one of the largest remaining gaps in the org chart at the Bureau of Industry and Security.

Peters, most recently a Trial Attorney in the Fraud Section, Market Integrity and Major Frauds of the Justice Department takes the reins from Matt Axelrod, now with Gibson Dunn in Washington.

Export Enforcement is an organization of 200 federal agents, analysts, and support personnel dedicated to the enforcement of our country’s export control laws. 

Remaining Commerce positions for which no nominations have been made include

  • Chief financial officer and assistant secretary for administration
  • Undersecretary of commerce for minority business development
  • Undersecretary for standards and technology
  • Assistant secretary for economic development
  • Assistant secretary for enforcement and compliance
  • Assistant secretary for oceans and atmosphere
  • Director, Census Bureau
  • Inspector General
