Eric Johnson has left the Justice Department after nearly 17 years. As Principal Deputy Chief of the National Security Division’s Foreign Investment Review Section (2022–2025), he directed DOJ’s role in screening foreign investment risks under CFIUS, Team Telecom, and ICTS authorities.
He led implementation of Executive Order 14117 on bulk data security, supervised more than 40 national security attorneys, and shaped DOJ’s enforcement posture on technology supply chains and cybersecurity.
Previously, as Deputy Chief for Compliance and Enforcement (2019–2022), Johnson built DOJ’s first CFIUS enforcement program and oversaw the first-ever CFIUS penalties. Earlier roles included trial litigation in the Torts Branch and a detail as a federal prosecutor.
