Senate Committee Marks Up EAA Bill

In a unanimous vote that belied the controversies still in play, the Senate Banking Committee on Sept. 23 marked up a bill to reauthorize the lapsed Export Administration Act (EAA), which provides the statutory basis for U.S. export controls. In a sign that the bill honestly crafts compromises among competing national security and business interests, virtually no one cheered the committee's products.
